One of the grooms whose wedding was cancelled by Guthrie Castle yesterday said he was now considering legal action.
Richard Breiden, 30, from Peterbourgh, who was due to marry his fiancé Georgina in May next year, said the phone call from Guthrie Castle Ltd director Angus Watson had left him furious and his partner “in tears”.
He said: “They have been running me around from pillar to post for the last two weeks and today was the first day that I’ve had anything concrete out of them.
“Angus Watson said they had made the decision going forward that they are not going to be doing any more weddings.
“I booked my wedding in August and I have a signed contract with them – they can’t just say they are not going to do it any more. It doesn’t work like that.”
Mr Breiden, who is originally from Arbroath, said the couple were potentially thousands of pounds out of pocket as they had paid deposits to several people for their big day, including a photographer, cake company and DJ.
“I’ve not even spoken to my guests yet,” he added.
“They’ve probably booked accommodation already. Most of them are not coming locally. I’ve even even got guests coming from Canada for this.
“It’s definitely too late to find another venue so the wedding is off.
“What I said on the phone went on deaf ears. He was more interested in making me the offer of giving me the deposit back.
“I’m very angry. Everything has just been so cloak and dagger.”
