The Conservatives gained a seat from the SNP in the battle for Brechin and Edzell.
Bob Myles (independent) retained his seat with two new councillors elected to the ward – Kenny Braes (SNP) and Gavin Nicol (Conservatives).
Mr Myles said: “I am pleased the electorate has shown confidence in me.”
Mr Nicol said: “I’m absolutely chuffed to be elected with such a good vote.
“This is all about the people of Brechin, we as councillors have to work together to give them the best, not fight with each other.”
SNP councillor Mr Braes said: “It was a close contests and I’m pleased to be elected. I hope that Gavin (Nicol) and Bob (Myles) and myself will work closely together. Brechin needs a lift and that’s what we need to work together for.”
