A Forfar nursing student is worried about returning to her new flat after an “almighty” stone was lobbed through her window during her first night in the property.
Kirsty Mackie, 23, was leaving for her nightshift in Dundee on Monday evening when the huge rock crashed through the bedroom window of her Chapel Street flat.
The stone landed right next to Kirsty’s bed, shattering her window on the way in.
She said: “At about 7.40pm I was getting ready to go to my nightshift.
“There had been some kids gathering outside earlier.
“One knocked the window but I just closed the curtains and thought nothing of it.
“Just as I was about to leave there was a huge clatter and a big smash from the bedroom.”
She added: “I went in and there was an almighty boulder halfway over the windowsill and into the bedroom.
“My bed is right next to the window, so if it had been just a bit further in and I had been lying down at the time I can’t really see a way it wouldn’t have left me badly injured.
“It was a big stone slab, really heavy.”
Nursing student ‘spiralled’ after stone was thrown through flat window
The fearful student, who works at Ninewells Hospital, was so shocked she is now worried about spending a night in the property, where she lives alone.
She said: “It was my first night in the flat.
“The landlords came up and helped fix the window.
“It didn’t really sink in until they had left.
“My mum asked if I was all right.
“I work in the brain injury unit at Ninewells, so as soon as I started thinking about it I sort of spiralled because I know what these injuries can be like.
“I’m not sure how I feel about going back – I’m a bit mixed on it.
“It’s not the kind of welcome you want.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 8.20pm on Monday police received a report of a vandalism on Chapel Street, Forfar.
“Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
