The mum of a man who died in a Carnoustie crash has revealed he had just beaten cancer.
Derek Millar, 42 – originally from Fintry in Dundee – died after his Volkswagen Golf hit a wall on the town’s Newton Road on Sunday.
Speaking to The Courier, mum Anne described him as a “fantastic son”.
She said: “He was a ray of sunshine and made everything better.
‘He wanted to make the most of his life’
“He recently recovered from throat cancer and wanted to make the most of his life. He was always there for his friends and family.
“We are originally from Fintry and he moved to Carnoustie a few years ago.
“He loved the town, he would usually meet up with his dad or his mates for a pint.”
Derek’s family had previously revealed in a statement that he had raised his two children following the death of their mother.
Anne said Derek – an electrician – “loved football” and helped coach youngsters at Carnoustie Panmure.
She added: “He wanted to keep busy every minute of his life.
“He enjoyed walking his dog and also went skydiving on a few occasions.
“Everybody loved Derek. He was always helping everyone out and would leave you with a smile.”
