Police have launched an investigation after a Carnoustie garage was deliberately set on fire as people slept in the house next door.
The wooden garage, on Lochend Road, was set alight at 2am in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Pictures of the blaze, captured by a homeowner, shows the garage alight as smoke billows across nearby garages and houses.
Scene of crime (SOC) investigators were working in the area on Saturday to determine the cause of the fire.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
It is the third suspicious blaze in Carnoustie in a matter of months.
Garage ruined in blaze
It took two fire crews, from Carnoustie and one from Balmossie, to bring the fire under control using two main hose reel jets.
Crews battled the blaze for half an hour to dampen the fire, sending a stop message to the control room by 2.30am.
Police said they are treating the fire as “wilful” and there are no reports of anyone being injured in the blaze.
Property owner Caroline Petrie shared photographs of the incident on a community Facebook group on Saturday afternoon.
She said: “This is what I had to deal with at 2am this morning.
“My garage, next to my house at the cul de sac in Lochend Road was set on fire.
“What is happening to Carnoustie?
“My car was broken into six-weeks ago, which I posted saying that I have lived here for 39 years without any bother.
“I am sickened.”
She added: “My thanks to the fire service, the police and SOC. They were all excellent.
“If anyone has any information, spread the word.”
Images the woman shared on the Facebook page show firefighters tackling the flames, while another photo, taken the following morning, shows the charred ruins of the hut.
A police spokesman said: “Around 2.20am on Saturday, officers were called to a report of a fire on Lochend Road, Carnoustie.
“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“The fire is being treated as wilful and inquiries are ongoing.”
A fire service spokeswoman added: “We had two appliances at Lochend Road in Carnoustie.
“We got the call at 2.01am on Saturday morning.
“The stop message came at 2.27am.
“We had two hose reel jets in use.”
