Jim Glennie, 64, was riding with 10 relatives and friends around Arran when the tragedy occurred. His son, Alan, 44, was cycling next to him at the time and tried to give CPR. The retired grandfather had nearly finished the ride when he crashed head-first into a verge at around 4.55pm on Saturday. He leaves behind wife Joan, daughter Kim, sons Alan and Keith, and six grandchildren, with a seventh on the way. He was a former manager and life president of Stonehaven Athletic.
