Angus and Mearns commuters faced morning problems after the areas took an overnight battering.
Localised flooding, branches and fallen trees made conditions on many roads hazardous.
Among the routes affected was the main A90 Dundee to Aberdeen dual carriageway, with the worst of the weather striking around dawn.
A lorry driver is believed to have had a lucky escape after the cab of his truck was struck by a falling tree on the northbound carriageway just north of Brechin around 3am.
Road crews worked at several locations along that stretch, and across the border into Aberdeenshire, with debris cleared and the worst of the weather abating by the time the main morning commuter traffic hit the trunk road.
Police advised drivers across Angus to be wary of standing water or obstructions on the road.
In Kirriemuir, Sheilhill Road was blocked by a large fallen tree.

An amber weather warning remains in place for parts of Courier Country until noon.
The Met Office said: “Persistent and occasionally heavy rain over parts of Scotland will continue into Wednesday.
“Localised flooding is likely along with disruption to some transport routes and difficult driving conditions.
“There is also a low likelihood of greater impacts across the northern half of the warning area where some flooding of homes and businesses is possible.”
