The bus, operated by Forfar-based J P Coaches, had returned from Letham Grange and dropped of passengers at Arbroath’s Morrisons store before returning to the nearby terminus.
It was due to change service to another route but the driver noticed smoke coming from the rear offside wheel area and alerted the fire service.
There were no passengers on the coach at the time.
There was no outbreak of fire but a town crew used a single hose reel to cool the affected wheel area of the 29-seater.
Arrangements were put in place for a replacement vehicle to be sent to the bus station.
