Furious locals have delivered a blow to a right-wing white nationalist movement’s attempt to boost its membership in Angus.
Vanguard Britannia’s flurry of propaganda activity has included putting up posters and fliers in Arbroath to convince people to support their cause.
However, locals took matters into their own hands and started tearing the posters down after describing them as “awful”, “truly chilling” and “terrible”.
The movement started in the UK in June and appears to be a British version of Vanguard America which is a self-described fascist movement.
The group has blamed Jews for being responsible for “pushing non-white immigration into white countries” and calls for the immediate ban on all immigration from countries “that are not European or of European descent”.
Arbroath councillor David Fairweather said: “I’m pleased to hear people are pulling these posters down.
“It’s absolutely distasteful and this is not the type of thing we want to see in our lovely town. These people are vile and if they wish to put out that kind of propaganda they should take it somewhere else.
“I will be instructing our council officers to pull down these posters if they see them.”
Arbroath residents also hit out at the propaganda campaign including Patricia Millar, 66, who said the poster campaign was “filth” and “had echoes with what happened with the rise of Hitler”.
She said: “It’s absolutely disgusting that people are using religion to further their cause. We Scots have a welcoming nature and there is no place for racism in a civilised society.”
In its online manifesto, the group declares its mission to “call for the immediate arrest and deportation of all 3000+ known Islamic terrorists in the UK”.
An ultimate goal of “Britain ending reliance on foreign food imports” is also included alongside reforming the education system with lessons on “human biodiversity and basic citizenry” added to the national curriculum.
The death penalty would be reinstated for murder and treason, and extended to paedophilia, as well as rape “on a case by case basis”.
Vanguard Britannia has also called for the immediate ban on all immigration from countries that are not European or of European descent followed by the repatriation of all people of non-European descent from the UK.
The manifesto states: “This shall eventually be followed by the repatriation of all peoples of non-European descent from the United Kingdom, including the termination of citizenship for those born within the UK.
“They shall be returned to their countries of origin or neighbouring territories as humanely and efficiently as possible.”
Asylum status would only be given to those of European stock fleeing racial persecution, such as in South Africa and Zimbabwe.
A spokesperson for Vanguard Britannia said: “It is time for change. Vanguard Britannia is that change.”
