A baby boy has died in Angus only three weeks after the newborn’s arrival.
Police attended an address in Brechin’s Damacre Road on Sunday following reports of a sudden death.
On Wednesday the police confirmed the cause of death is “unexplained” and said a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal, as is the case with all sudden deaths.
It is understood no further police action has taken place.
A force spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland attended at Damacre Road, Brechin at 7am on Sunday July 23, following the sudden death of a three-week-old baby boy.
“The death is being treated as unexplained and there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.
“As with all sudden deaths a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
“Officers are continuing to liaise and support the family through this difficult time.”
