Police have advised rural properties to secure belongings after a quad bike and gardening tools were stolen.
Thieves took a red Honda Foreman, various Husqvarna, Stihl, and Kawasaki petrol tools, and a red Honda pressure washer from Memus near Forfar.
The break-in happened sometime between 10pm on July 23 and 6am on July 24.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers would like to remind people of the importance of taking simple crime prevention measures during day and night and also of the role they can play in keeping an eye out for suspicious activity in their area.
“Locally in Angus we are involved in Community and Rural Watch which is partnership-led and provides the opportunity for residents to be kept up to date by email about local incidents, issues and crimes in their area.
“The service is free and residents can sign up online at www.neighbourhoodwatchscotland.co.uk and join the group Angus Community and Rural Watch.”
Police advice
Ensure that your home, farm and outbuildings are secure.
Use British Standard locks and high security closed-shackle padlocks – NEVER leave your shed, garage or outbuilding unlocked.
Lock windows and doors, remove keys from locks & keep out of visible reach.
Consider fitting intruder alarms, CCTV and good outside security lighting, check regularly to ensure they work; for visibility at night, consider sensor-operated lighting which is convenient and an effective deterrent.
Make it more difficult for criminals to simply unscrew locks or hinges of shed doors by fitting carriage bolts or clutch head security screws. Another method of stopping screws being removed is to fill the heads with epoxy resin.
If your outbuilding has windows, consider fitting a curtain, or similar, to obscure the view of the building’s contents.
Security mark all equipment with your postcode to increase the likelihood of it being returned if stolen and then subsequently recovered. Marking should be obvious, where possible, although an ultra violet pen or Smartwater can be used for more discreet marking.
A steel cable threaded through removable property and secured to the building can make it extremely difficult for the thief to steal.
Secure, immobilise and remove keys from the ignition of vehicles and equipment when not in use.
Keep vehicles and equipment somewhere secure when not in use.
Consider fitting your vehicles, trailers and quad bikes with a tracker system.
