Angus is continuing to pack in wacky world records after an Arbroath man stuffed a holiday suitcase in blistering time in the sunshine of Blackpool pleasure beach.
With a weird and wonderful record double in the bag – and another to come in Kirriemuir next weekend – Arbroath’s Shane Johnson added another entry to the fast-growing chapter of success during a family holiday to the famous resort.
Shane, 29, stepped up to the challenge during the world-famous amusement park’s annual Summertime Games, a four-day extravaganza which saw thrill-seekers invited to try and set seven new, beach-themed world records.
He took on a task renowned for being a holiday headache – and usually the subject of several attempts at home before heading for sunny foreign climes – by packing a suitcase full of holiday essentials in a blazing time of 42.19 seconds.
A second record was set by 12-year-old Angelina Barlow from Blackpool who pulled on 21 pairs of swimming trunks in a remarkable 30 seconds.
Both were crowned record holders by a Guinness representative and will feature in the official 2018 version of the famous Guinness Book of World Records.
Shane said: “It was such a fun event to be involved in and I can’t believe I ended up breaking a world record.
“The crowds were a great support, cheering us on throughout.”
Other records attempted across the four-day event included the most wet sponges thrown in the face in 30 seconds, the greatest amount of sand moved with a teaspoon in half a minute and the fastest time to throw five rubber rings on another person.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach managing director Amanda Thompson OBE, said: “Shane and Angelina really got into the fun and competitive spirit of the games and are deserving champions.
“Our number one aim at Blackpool Pleasure Beach is to ensure visitors have a fantastic day and it’s fantastic to know that Shane and Angelina will make the history books too.”
