A man was rushed to hospital following an incident at a Montrose crossing on Thursday morning.
The Angus town’s inshore lifeboat was called to the bridge across the River South Esk after the man ended up in the water at about 7.35am.
He was pulled from the water by rescuers and taken to the RNLI’s lifeboat station on Wharf Street, where ambulance and police services were waiting.
Afterwards he was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
A spokesman for the Montrose RNLI said: “It was the main road bridge. He was in the river and the tide was going out. We went out and got him and took him back.
“He was handed over to the police and ambulance.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 7.50am today to attend the lifeboat station in Montrose.
“We dispatched one ambulance to the scene. One male patient was taken to Ninewells Hospital.”
A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that they attended at the road bridge entering Montrose around 7:30am this morning regarding reported concern for a man there.
“He was subsequently taken to hospital by ambulance.”
