Two people were rushed to hospital after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a tree on the A90 north of Brechin.
A male and a female were both trapped in the vehicle after the crash just after 1pm northbound near the Edzell junction close to Stracathro.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) managed to remove the female just before 2pm but had to spend another hour freeing the male who was rescued from the vehicle just after 3pm.
The two were taken to Ninewells Hospital and their condition has not been disclosed.
The road was closed northbound from the Edzell junction for several hours but remained open southbound throughout.
A spokesperson for the SFRS said: “We received a call at 1.26pm over reports of a car which left the road and hit a tree on the A90 north of Brechin.
“Two appliances attended to find both were trapped in the vehicle.
“They were freed and taken to Ninewells Hospital.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed officers attended after receiving a call at 1.22pm.
