An Angus learner driver left with serious injuries after his vehicle collided with an oncoming lorry has pled guilty to dangerous driving.
The 17-year-old provisional licence holder, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted speeding along the A933 road between Arbroath and Brechin on February 25 2017.
With two passengers in his vehicle, the learner admitted he drove close to other cars before losing control, striking a grass verge and hitting an oncoming lorry.
The injuries suffered by the young driver were described to Forfar Sheriff Court as “significant”.
Following the crash, the teen was taken to Ninewells Hospital suffering from two broken legs, brain damage and a punctured lung.
The passengers emerged from the crash with less serious injuries.
On Thursday morning at Forfar Sheriff Court, the learner admitted a charge of dangerous driving on the road between the A933 and the A932 Friockheim to Forfar road.
He also pled guilty to driving without insurance.
Sheriff Gregor Murray warned the teenager he had plead guilty to a “very serious offence” which had “very serious consequences”.
The accused’s not guilty pleas to charges of driving without a test certificate or displaying an “L” plate were accepted.
Sheriff Murray deferred the case until Thursday November 9 to gain reports.
