An Angus man based in Thailand has died in a motorbike accident.
Steven Kerr was originally from Montrose but had recently been based in Pattaya, in the Sattahip district of Chonburi.
According to a Thai news organisation, Mr Kerr died after his Yamaha NMax bike collided with a lamppost last Friday morning. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The 32-year-old’s funeral is set to be held today in Thailand.
A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said today: “Our staff have assisted the family of a British man following his death in Thailand.”
The report by Thai Visa News said the accident happened as Mr Kerr was heading towards Pattaya. He had been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The bike was found in a central reservation, near the Pattaya Elephant Camp, after the accident. Na Jomtien Police are investigating the crash.
Mr Kerr attended Montrose Academy. After school he embarked on offshore work and specialised as a cyber driller.
It is understood that he has a young family in Thailand.
A celebration of his life is to be held at the Hillside Hotel, just outside Montrose, tomorrow.
People have been encouraged to come and share stories and give him the “send-off he deserves”.
An online post said: “For friends and family closer to home, we have decided to organise a celebration of his life, which basically involves his friends having a drink and sharing some stories.
“People will be in the Hillside Hotel from 5pm onwards, so feel free to come along and give him the send-off he deserves.
“There’s no dress code and donations for his young family are welcome.”
Montrose councillor Bill Duff said his condolences went to his family.
He added: “It sounds like a tragic accident and my thoughts are with his family at this time.”
