Two men fled empty handed after an attempted robbery at the Premier Store in St Peters Place in Montrose.
The would-be robbers entered the store on Saturday evening at 9.55pm and presented a weapon at the female shop assistant.
The alarm was quickly activated and the two men made off empty handed.
The shop assistant was shocked but unhurt.
Police said they would like to trace two men in connection with the incident.
The first man is described as being five foot nine inches tall, wearing a grey hooded top, face concealed with dark scarf or clothing, gloves and dark jogging bottoms.
He was possession of a black bin bag.
The second man is described as five foot nine inches tall, was wearing a blue hooded top with hood up and wearing gloves.
The two men ran off from the area into a lane next to the store and may have been seen running off in either Christies Lane or India Street.
