A man has been arrested in connection with an attempted knife robbery on an Angus bookmakers.
Police Scotland confirmed on Monday that a 47-year-old had been detained following the incident at the Loganbet premises in the Angus town’s Clerk Street around 3pm on Friday afternoon.
It is understood that no charges have been made at this stage of the investigation.
The alleged theft took place just yards away from Brechin police station, leaving shop manager Eddie Nutten and a female colleague shaken but unhurt.
A police dog unit was called in as part of the response to the incident after the man fled empty-handed through the side door of the shop and into the car park of an adjacent public house.
Police subsequently issued a detailed description of a man they were seeking in connection with the attempted robbery.
He was said to have been wearing a Rangers FC scarf and yellow-tinted glasses.
Mr Nutten, 62, said the man approached the counter of the shop and smiled, before presenting a knife and demanding money.
A spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 47-year-old man was arrested in connection with an attempted robbery in Brechin which occurred on Friday February 16.
“Enquiries are ongoing,” they added.
