Police have confirmed a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with an allegation of serious sexual assault involving an Angus primary school pupil.
An inquiry was mounted towards the end of last year over a report that a young boy was the subject of an attack by a secondary school-aged pupil.
The schools which the two youngsters attend cannot be named for legal reasons, but concerns emerged among some parents over the handling of the matter.
Although there was no suggestion that the attack happened at the primary school, concerns were raised that the alleged victim was continuing to come into contact with other youngsters who may have had a connection to the case.
Police Scotland has now said that a report was made to the fiscal and the matter is currently with the Crown Office.
No further comment has been made by police at this stage.
At the time details of the investigation emerged they said: “Police Scotland is committed to protecting children and to thoroughly investigating all reports of sexual assault.
“Our investigations are always victim-focused and victim-led.
“Our specially trained, dedicated officers work closely with a range of partners to ensure the right support is available where and when it is needed.”
An Angus Council spokesman said: “Given the matter is currently subject of a report to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service it is not appropriate to comment other than to state that we continue to work closely with families and individuals involved and would encourage them to raise any questions or concerns they have directly with us.”
