Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of an Angus man at a local beauty spot.
The force said Steven Donaldson, of Arbroath, was killed in a “sustained and brutal” attack with a “sharp, heavy weapon” at Loch of Kinnordy Nature Reserve, near Kirriemuir.
His body was found by two members of the public at about 5am on Thursday morning.
On Friday afternoon, Detective Superintendent James Smith and Chief Inspector David McIntosh, of Tayside Police Division, held a press conference on the investigation.
Police believe Mr Donaldson drove from Arbroath to Kirriemuir on Wednesday evening in his white BMW 1 Series car. It has a private registration of S73 VED.
Det Supt Smith said: “A postmortem examination has established that Steven was the victim of a brutal and sustained attack.
“His attacker(s) must be traced as a matter of urgency and I urge the public to assist me with this investigation, to find who was responsible.”
