Two men were taken to hospital by helicopter on Sunday night after being rescued near Montrose beach.
A 999 call was made after they got into difficulties whilst swimming in the sea and the alarm was raised around 7.45pm.
A full-scale emergency response was scrambled, including Montrose RNLI inshore and all-weather boats and a search and rescue helicopter.
Police and an ambulance were also in attendance along with coastguard teams from Arbroath and Carnoustie.
The swimmers were pulled from the water by lifeboat crew and taken back to the lifeboat station before being airlifted to Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital for further checks.
