Calls have been made for a tenant to be removed from a council-run sheltered housing complex in Angus after a naked man was seen running around outside her flat.
Elderly residents in Balmain Court in Montrose were left distressed after seeing a naked and semi-naked man outside their homes.
They believe the men had been taking illegal substances whilst visiting a female tenant in the 17-home complex.
A relative of a 91-year-old female resident has questioned the council’s decision in placing a younger woman, understood to be a drug addict, into sheltered housing accommodation she believed was specifically for the elderly.
The matter came to light during a visit by the London woman to her sister.
She was shocked to discover “unsavoury” visitors had been calling at a woman’s flat and is now asking for her to be moved.
She said her sister has lived in the complex for some years and has been happy and secure in the Angus Council development.
However, the arrival of the new tenant and the antics of visitors to her home have left residents calling for action.
The elderly resident’s sister said: “I didn’t realise what was happening.
“I didn’t see anything when I was up but was told about this lady who has moved in and the unsavoury visitors.
“The woman herself is quite quiet but terrible people come to see her.
“My sister is 91 and a 97-year-old lives next door to her.
“The 97-year-old came out of her flat one morning, she heard a noise, and there was a naked and a semi-naked man running around.
“For elderly people to have this behaviour in their midst is unnerving.
“I wrote an email to the council and all they have said is, if this happens again, residents have to ring the bell for the warden and the police will come.
“The residents are worried.”
She said a relative had also contacted Angus Council about concerns and received a letter suggesting the tenant in question had signed an agreement which states she is not allowed to have visitors, apart from her family.
The concerned sister continued: “The advice to residents is they should pull the alarm chord or contact the police if there are any concerns regarding noise or unsavoury visitors.
“I don’t think my sister is concerned about her own safety, they are not afraid of the woman but they don’t like unsavoury people running around.
“When you come out of your door at night and see a half-naked man and a naked man, God only knows what will happen.”
“I don’t know where to go from now.”
An Angus Council spokesman said: “Sheltered housing is available to adults of any age who have an assessed medical or support need to live in a sheltered environment.
“While we will not discuss specific details, we encourage residents to report any concerns they have directly to us – as has happened on this occasion – so we can take appropriate steps to address matters.”
