Carnoustie community spirit shown in the wake of attacks on two local groups has already been tarnished by the repeat actions of mindless vandals.
The town’s Golf Memories Group and Carnoustie Panmure Youth FC were each hit in quick succession by recent incidents which sparked anger throughout the area.
A banner promoting the golf group – whose work was praised by Major winner Adam Scott during this summer’s Open Championship – was torn down.
The young footballers were stunned to find that thieves who broke into their Pitskelly Park clubrooms had made off with items including kit bound for African kids.
A swift response brought immediate support for both organisations but while the football club is well on its way to hitting a fundraising target to replace its stolen items, Golf Memories group members were dismayed to find a replacement banner vandalised again just days after being put up.
Panmure’s Balls for the Boys Justgiving campaign is more than half way towards its £500 target, and the club has also received £500 donations from both the Spar and the Rookery restaurant on the town links.
Strathaven Dynamo AFC also sent the outfit balls and bags, with the Carnoustie club saying it has been heartened by the response to the break-in.
Sadly, Golf Memories chair Lorraine Young said the group which helps those suffering from dementia and memory loss conditions had been left reeling by further damage to a new banner.
“One of our local businesses, Primesigns, very generously replaced the original Golf Memories banner which had been damaged beyond hope of repair,” she said.
“The group received the new banner on Wednesday and displayed it that day in the same location as the original banner.”
By Sunday morning the group learned that it had been vandalised again.
Lorraine added: “The banner has now been removed rather than leaving it to risk further mindless damage being inflicted.
“Words almost fail me to describe this repeated mindless act of vandalism.

“Acts of vandalism like this have no place in a strong, positive, community-spirited community such as Carnoustie.
“As previously requested, if anyone has any information about either the original or current act of vandalism to contact the police.”
