Police are attempting to trace the driver of a 4×4 who offered a girl a lift in a Mearns town on Monday.
Officers say the youngster was approached by a man behind the wheel of a red pick-up truck on the Slug Road in Stonehaven, between William Mackie Road and East Glebe, on Monday, October 1 at 4pm.
It was raining at the time and he is said to have offered the girl a lift while she walked down the street. She kept walking following the offer.
Police say the man may have been “genuinely trying to help” – but called on him, or witnesses, to come forward in order to “establish the full circumstances”.
Local policing sergeant for Kincardine and Mearns Mark Conner said: “At this time there is nothing to suggest that anything untoward has happened however we want to trace the man who was driving the vehicle to rule this out.
“It was raining at this time on Monday and the girl was walking under an umbrella. It could have been that the man was genuinely trying to help but we are carrying out inquiries to establish the full circumstances.
“If you were the driver we would urge you to come forward. We also ask that anyone who was in the area at the time and say anything which might help us with our enquiries to contact us on 101 using reference number 2553 of October 1.”
