Montrose all-weather and inshore lifeboats were scrambled on Sunday morning.
The alarm was raised just after 3am.
Aberdeen Coastguard requested assistance in searching for a missing person reported to be in the beach area of Montrose.
The person was found to be safe and well and both lifeboats were stood down at 3.50am.
The lifeboats returned to station and were made ready.
