An Angus RNLI team was called out after an empty lifeboat was spotted drifting at sea on Halloween.
The vessel was spotted on Wednesday afternoon by a local fishing crew off the coast of Arbroath, who were struggling to bring it under tow due to the “tricky” weather conditions.
The Arbroath RNLI sent a team out on its all-weather lifeboat, Inchcape, after receiving the call at about 2.50pm.
The “ghost ship” had fallen from a Norwegian vessel which departed Montrose during “stormy” weather earlier this week.
The empty lifeboat was safely towed into Arbroath’s marina.
Arbroath RNLI coxswain mechanic Sam Clow said: “It wasn’t exactly a dark and stormy night but it was still pretty spooky being called to a ‘ghost ship’ on Halloween.
“In the end it was a pretty standard shout for us but I think it was one the crew will remember nonetheless.
“I think a few crew had to abandon their Halloween parties and plans but it’s just another example of how our crews will drop anything, including bobbing for apples, to help anyone in trouble on the sea.”
