A whale discovered dead at a local beach will be disposed of today.
The large minke whale, which was found near Lunan Bay on Wednesday, is believed to be getting buried on Friday following consultation between Angus Council and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa).
The sea creature was discovered by Arbroath joiner Lee Mitchell while he was working on a beach hut with his dad Brian earlier this week.
Experts from the Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme (SMASS) said they believe the whale, which was in an advanced state of autolysis, may have died from natural causes.
The burial of the animal is due to take place on the beach itself.
An Angus Council spokesman said: “Following consultation between the relevant agencies arrangements are being made for the safe disposal of the whale carcass.”
A Sepa spokesman said: “Sepa has been contacted by Angus Council regarding the burial of a whale which has been discovered on Lunan Bay.
“We will continue to work with the council to ensure that the whale is disposed of in a manner that minimises any potential risk to the environment.”
