Organisers at Brechin Community Pantry are appealing for donations of festive food, as well as people to volunteer some time to assist with a Christmas day meal for people who might otherwise be alone.
A spokesperson from the organisation said: “Unfortunately, the people who organised the previous Christmas lunches were unable to it this year, and it’s all a bit frantic as this is a service in our community that is now a vital link.
“We have no funding for this year, so we are issuing an appeal to all local businesses who are willing to contribute to the meal, and for volunteers to help out on the day, just for a few hours.
“It would also be great if a caterer came forward to rally our helpers!
“We are very grateful that the Mechanics Institute are letting us use the venue free of charge, and we also have the use of the high school mini bus so we can provide transport for anyone who needs it.

“The dinner is for people of all ages, gender and abilities that are alone at Christmas or have very little.
“We are operating a referral system as we can only cater for so many people, so we are reaching out to as many organisations, groups and individuals within the area as possible.
“Any donations will be greatly appreciated as what we don’t use on the day will be sent home with the diners, or donated to the Brechin Pantry.”
Brechin and Edzell Conservative Councillor Gavin Nicol welcomed the initiative: “The Brechin Community Pantry is doing excellent work in the community, and I would like to applaud this festive initiative which will ensure people will enjoy a Christmas meal in good company.”
