A major recovery operation was mounted at the Barry Burn, near Carnoustie, on Sunday after the discovery of a body.
Police Scotland officers, coastguard and fire personnel were at the scene shortly before 1pm following the grim discovery.
An area near the Carnoustie Golf Hotel at the Barry Burn estuary was cordoned off.
One eye-witness reported two coastguard vehicles, two Tayside Fire and Rescue vehicles, two ambulances and “multiple” Police officers are at the scene.
A police spokeswoman confirmed a recovery operation was taking place but added no further details will be released at present.
