Police Scotland have confirmed that the body of a man has been recovered from the Barry Burn in Carnoustie.
The announcement followed a major recovery operation, sparked by a report received around 12.40pm on Sunday December 16.
Police Scotland officers, coastguard and fire personnel were at the scene shortly before 1pm following the grim discovery, and an area near the Carnoustie Golf Hotel at the Barry Burn estuary was cordoned off.
Detective Inspector Ray Birnie said: “Enquiries are at early stage and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.
“However, initial enquiries suggest there are no suspicious circumstances.”
