A Forfar mum has told how she dramatically gave birth on a country road after her waters broke when she hit a pothole.
Stay-at-home mum Aimee Young, 25, said she could no longer hold on after the car hit a bump near Tealing while she was travelling to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
Along with her mum, Jackie Law, and aunt, Trisha Law, she was making her way to Dundee from Forfar on the A90 after she started experiencing contractions at home.
“I was in labour and I thought I could make it to the hospital,” she said.
“We were just on the way to Dundee from Forfar on the A90.
“The contractions then started coming, harder and stronger – but my water had not broken. It broke after we hit a pothole.
“My auntie, who was driving, went into a country road at Todhills, and pulled over by the Halley Robert and Sons garage.
“I was there for what I felt like forever for me – the baby, at this point, was crowning.”
Aimee realised she was going to give birth and they phoned for an ambulance.
Aimee said: “We quickly phoned an ambulance because we were on a country road.
“My auntie had to flag them down. The crew came and managed to get me into the ambulance.
“They were in the middle of a three-point turn, and during the second stage of the turn, the guy in the back told the man driving to come in the back – but before he could get in the back, Peter was already born.”
The tot was born on November 10 at 9.32am, weighing 8lb and 4oz.
“I was thinking ‘Oh my God, oh my God, I just had a baby’.
“Between the car and the ambulance, the baby’s head was out.
“The driver, after the birth, said I should go and buy a lottery ticket.”
Aimee praised the two Dundee-based emergency responders who assisted the birth of Peter, her second child and a brother to five-year-old William.
She said: “I did not get a chance to thank them – it was over quite quickly, and after the birth, we just went to the hospital.
“I just want to say thanks for getting to me and finding me in a silly place.”
Just last year a couple from Shetland also told how their baby was born in a layby after their car hit a pothole.
Husband Alistair had to deliver baby Ryley at the side of the road after mum Debbie Morgan’s waters broke when the car travelled down a rutted single track road.
