A Tayside police chief has paid tribute to a “well liked, popular” officer found dead near an Angus beach.
Dean Morrison was discovered at the Barry Burn on Sunday afternoon.
The 40-year-old was a serving police officer with the Tayside Division and had 16 years of service to his name.
He joined the Tayside Police Division in 2002 and worked from Dundee.
Chief Superintendent Andrew Todd, divisional commander for the Tayside Division, said: “Dean was a highly respected officer, who was extremely well liked and popular with his colleagues. He was thoroughly professional in his work.
“His death is a great tragedy and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him and we will do all we can to support them during this distressing time.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
“We ask that you respect their privacy at this difficult time.”
The emergency services were called to the scene near the Rookery restaurant and Carnoustie Golf Links at about 1pm on Sunday after Mr Morrison’s body was found, with a large area cordoned off around the scene.
