Sharp-shooting teenager Eden Roy has bagged a string of accolades little more than a year after taking up the sport.
At the annual prizegiving of Forfar Small Bore Rifle Club held in the Ardler Tavern, 16-year-old Eden scooped three trophies.
The haul of silverware included the Provost RJW Proctor Quaich, presented personally by Angus Provost Ronnie Proctor in recognition of the rising star’s status as the club’s outstanding junior shot.
A former pupil of Lathallan School and now planning to study geology at university, Eden, from Inverbervie only began .22 target shooting at the Forfar range with Lathallan in September 2017.
Over the course of 2018 she has won the junior Aberdeen and District outdoor open wapinshaw and the Scottish junior championship at Lauder.
The teenager was also winner of the junior weekend aggregate competition at the famous Bisley shooting grounds and triumphed in the aggregate C Class there, with a performance which would have placed her fourth in the B category against more experienced shots.
Eden’s fledgling career has also already seen her represent the Scotland team against New Zealand as well as being selected for the Scottish Schools’ A team and the Scottish target shooting junior squad.
She has also now started 10 metre air rifle training under the guidance of the Forfar club’s own British champion Fiona Crowden and intends to continue to pursue her love of the sport when she takes up university studies.
To cap the anniversary of her first year on the range, Eden showed a steady hand and eagle eye to shoot her first perfect 100 – following it up with a second ‘ton’ maximum on the same day.
Forfar SBRC continues to thrive as one of the town’s oldest sports clubs, welcoming members and visitors its range at The Myre.
It was formed in 1937 and four years ago enhanced the facilities at range with the grant-aided installation of electronic target equipment.
The club regularly hosts top target shooters from across Scotland, including Scottish team members who have enjoyed competitive success at events including the Commonwealth games.
