A major rescue operation swung into action on Thursday night after a person was seen falling from cliffs at Arbroath.
Police, Coastguard, the town’s RNLI crew and the Scottish Ambulance Service were all involved in the incident.
There was a large turnout of emergency vehicles in the vicinity of Victoria Park.
A casualty was picked up by the town lifeboat and transferred to the RNLI station at the harbour. They were then transferred to an ambulance and rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
Their condition is not known at this stage.
A Coastguard spokesman said: “The Arbroath lifeboat and Arbroath in-shore lifeboat were launched, as well as the Carnoustie Coastguard Rescue Team and the Montrose Coastguard Rescue team.
“We were contacted for assistance at 7.40pm.”
A spokesman for Arbroath Lifeboat Station added: “We were called to attend a casualty, the casualty was rescued and brought back to the lifeboat station and on to an ambulance.”
Some locals witnessed the emergency response as it was unfolding.
One of them said: “There were a lot of emergency vehicles at Victoria Park and the lifeboat was visible just off the cliffs.
“The road into the lifeboat station was also blocked off so they must be bringing someone back there.”
