Two Angus men have appeared in court in relation to an alleged serious assault in broad daylight which saw part of an Arbroath Street placed in lockdown.
Sean Dempsey, 36 and William Black, 39, both of Arbroath, appeared on petition at Forfar Sheriff Court on Friday.
Dempsey has been charged with assault to severe injury and misuse of drugs.
He made no plea and his case was continued for further examination.
Dempsey was remanded in custody and is expected to appear back in court next week.
Black faces a single charge of assault to severe injury.
He made no plea, his case was also continued for further examination and he was released on bail.
A date for his second court appearance has yet to be confirmed.
The pair were arrested and charged on Wednesday evening and were kept in custody until their court appearance following events in the Angus town on Wednesday.
A major police investigation was launched after a man was seriously injured in the alleged attack in the town’s Sidney Street around 11.45 am.
There were reports the alleged victim had suffered a number of stab wounds.
Police later confirmed a man had been taken to hospital with a leg injury which they described as “serious but non-life-threatening”.
Sidney Street remained closed-off until late in the day and residents were warned there would be a police presence in the area for some time until inquiries were completed.
Later on Wednesday evening police confirmed they attended an isolated incident in the area of Strathairlie Avenue, Arbroath which involved a significant police presence.
They added two males were in police custody and at no time was there a wider risk to public safety.
