Crowdfunding support has flooded in for Angus families touched by tragedy in recent weeks.
Separate online campaigns were set up following the death of Montrose mum Erin Dewar in a crash on one of Scotland’s busiest roads earlier this month, and the paralysing stroke suffered by popular Arbroath FC figure Neil Douglas at the club’s Gayfield Park ground less than a fortnight ago.
Each of the Gofundme crowdfunders have now passed their initial target and the families have paid tribute to all those who have shown support.
Ms Dewar, 28, died after her Ford Fiesta left the M9 near Cambusbarron and hit a tree on the night of March 13.
The young mum had a seven-year-old son, Riley, and was described as a devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend in a statement released by her heartbroken family.
The £3,000 campaign set up to raise funeral funds and provide for Riley has now reached almost £3,700 in just ten days, with contributors speaking of the “lovely girl” and her “beautiful little boy”.
A £2,000 target for the fund set up to help Mr Douglas in his recovery from the stroke he suffered while working in the role he loved as the Lichties’ videographer has also been passed, with more than £2,200 donated in a week.
The grateful couple have said they have been overwhelmed by the support shown since 47-year-old Mr Douglas collapsed.
In an update on the crowdfunder page, his wife, Natasha said: “Neil and I are so overwhelmed with all the support from family, friends, workmates and fellow Lichties.
“He talks about hoping to get back to the games and filming. He’s told all the nurses and physios of his videoing at Arbroath and how much he loves it.”
She added: “Each day I am seeing slight progress.
“He is trying to be positive and hopes to get back to full health when he can.”
Mr Douglas suffered a loss of movement on all of his right side.
“It will be a long recovery but we are taking a day at a time. Thank you all so much for your kind donations, they’re very much appreciated,” said Natasha.
