Bosses at Arbroath Golf Links have unveiled a major programme of investment in the hope of building on the “Open bounce”.
The links enjoyed a boost in visitors during the 147th Open at Carnoustie, which attracted 172,000 fans to Angus in July last year and generated around £69 million for the county’s economy.
The Links team have introduced a range of improvements for the year ahead, including a new watering system which has been installed with the support of a number of funding bodies including the Arbroath Common Good Fund, Carnoustie Links Trust and the Arbroath Artisan Golf Club.
A spokesperson said: “A considerable amount of work has gone into the links, with the emphasis on natural green keeping.
“This has been completed under the watchful eye of head greenkeeper Ally Wylie with the assistance of his staff and team of volunteers.”
The course has been receiving rave reviews from visitors following its exposure as a result of last year’s Open.

One review from an American couple was featured in a magazine’s “hidden gems” column, while another described it as “a beautifully and naturally undulating tract of traditional linksland – a much underrated golf course.”
Course secretary Scott Arbuthnott said: “We were fortunate to enjoy a boost from the Open in Carnoustie, but we very much see ourselves as being at the heart of the community.
“Golf is not an elitist sport in any way – it is for everyone, and we encourage people to come into the club, where they will receive a warm welcome.”
The links team also invested in improved practice facilities at the driving range, pitching area and practice putting green, and new golf carts will also be available for the start of the season.
A number of new personnel are also in place.
Long-serving popular professional Lindsay Ewart recently stood down from the role after 39 years, and the position will be filled by Craig Knowles, formerly of Glenrothes golf course and his assistant Connor Galbraith who have taken over the running of the professionals shop.
