Tributes have poured in after a young woman lost her life in a tragic Angus road accident.

The 29-year-old, believed to be a mother of three from the Montrose area, died as a result of the incident when the Audi A4 she was travelling in left the B9134 Brechin to Forfar road at about 10.15pm on Saturday.

A 30-year-old male was treated for minor injuries after the accident which occurred near to the junction with the unclassified road to Balglassie.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two appliances from Brechin were dispatched, and subsequently took instruction at the scene from Police Scotland officers.

“The last appliance left the incident 12.22am.”

Crash investigators were in attendance, and inquiries continue in a bid establish the full circumstances.

People took to social media to pay tribute to the victim.

One said: “Rip sweetheart! Another life taken far too soon! Thinking of your boys and family.”

While another added: “Very sad news, thoughts are with the family of this young lady, prayers are with them.

“Sad news to wake up to on Easter Sunday, thoughts are with all the family.”

Montrose and District Independent Councillor Tommy Steward expressed sadness at the news.

He said: “First of all, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family and friends of the young woman who was killed in such tragic circumstances.

“It is awful that someone has had their life cut short in this way.

“I drive that road most days, and there are a few bad bends on it, and drivers need to be careful, but overall, it is not a particularly bad road.

“There has been rumours locally about the identity of the victim, but it would be irresponsible for people to speculate about the accident.

“I would urge anyone with any information to contact the police in order to assist the investigation, and help find the answers that I am sure her family need.”

Police Scotland are appealing for any witnesses, or is able to provide any information to contact them by calling 101, quoting incident number 5512 of April 20 2019 or speak to any officer.
