The biggest beach clean ever held in Angus is being scrambled to tackle litter hotspots along the coastline.
The Great Angus Beach Clean will take place from Carnoustie to Arbroath over three days from May 10-12 to coincide with Clean Up Europe weekend.
Aerial photographs of plastics, rubbish and fishing gear washed up and blown up on to beaches and remote areas has prompted a call to arms from volunteers.
Throughout 2018, volunteer pilots and observers from UK Civil Air Patrol (Sky Watch) spent more than 150 hours flying the Scottish mainland, capturing images of the rubbish around its coastline.
Wendy Murray from East Haven Together said: “This will be the biggest beach clean ever held in Angus and possibly in Scotland.
“It marks a move away from the traditional format of a beach clean to one in which everybody can get involved and hopefully we will persuade joggers, walkers and cyclists to do their bit and play a part to help.”
She added: “There are large quantities of plastic and ghost fishing gear in the more remote areas of coastline which are difficult to access.
“We are hoping that the public will really get behind the event and help remove some of the plastic along the coastline.”
Thanks to grant funding from LEADER, the European rural development programme, the East Haven Together team have purchased a utility vehicle capable of transporting marine litter from the beach.
During the three-day event, people of all ages and all abilities are encouraged to take a walk along the coast from Carnoustie to Arbroath and pick up litter in the knowledge that they won’t have to carry it far.
It will be collected from just above the high tide mark by the beach vehicle on May 10 from 10am-2pm, May 11 from 10.30am to 2.30pm and May 12 from 12.30pm to 3.30pm.
People are being asked to collect litter and position it carefully in black bin liners which can be tied to ensure the contents are not accessible to seagulls and are not blown away.
