An Angus DJ and music producer is on the threshold of launching a global agency on the back of the impressive debut of his first solo project.
Brent Lawson, 42, who has successfully collaborated with international DJs in the past, took the bold step of going it alone by launching the hypnotic ‘Cognitive Behaviour’ EP.
Produced from his base in Friockheim, it charted across six different places in the Beatport charts, including hitting number two in the Progressive House new releases
Brent also runs two record labels – Pro B Tech Music and BTechNoir Records – and is hoping to take his mixing talents to a wider audience at festivals at home and abroad.
His skills will take him to the world-famous club scene in Ibiza this summer as well as gigs closer to home.
The self-employed maintenance planner for the oil industry has been described as the industry’s “best kept secret” – but he hopes this is about to change.
He said: “I run my own Underground labels and am trying to kick off a global DJ agency.
“I DJ and produce and am delighted my first solo project has had a lot of global support.
“I started DJ-ing in my teens and bought my first set of Gemini direct drive vinyl decks about 22 years ago.
“I would be mixing my own music in my bedroom when my parents would be listening to Foster and Allen – it didn’t go down too well.
“I went out DJ-ing at De Vito’s nightclub in Arbroath and clubs in Dundee and Perth.”
Marriage to Bobbie and the births of Rebekah and Kirsty put his music plans on the back burner, but he is now immersing himself in mixing new tracks.
“I’ve just recently got back in to music and have been to a few conferences such as IMS Ibiza, BMC Brighton, with eyes on ADE Amsterdam and WMC – Miami.
“I’ve worked with people from Argentina, Ibiza, the UK and Germany but one of my biggest failings is I never put any time on myself to help raise my profile.
Taking his inspiration from Argentinian Hernan Cattaneo, a founding father of the underground house music scene, and local regular Dave Seaman, Rhumba Club , Brent is now hoping to get his own name out there.
“I am definitely going to try to get into festivals this year and am going to be a little bit more selfish.
“I have been invited to perform in Ibiza and have a gig in Bristol in June with circle. Ibiza, and three more with Music is the Answer in Elgin and Dundee,
He performed at Mains Castle in February alongside James Zabiela and will be back at the castle in July warming up with the massive Nick Warren.
