A 23-year-old man has been arrested following the death of a woman in Brechin.
Police Scotland has confirmed they are dealing with the death of the “unidentified woman” at Swan Street in the town centre.
Her body was found in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A spokesman said: “The incident is being treated as suspicious and a 23-year-old man has been arrested.
“There is no wider risk to the public identified.
“It is anticipated there will be some disruption to the area whilst investigations take place.”
Local residents have spoken of their “shock and sadness” as part of the town centre was cordoned off to allow a full police investigation to be carried out.
The road between City Road and the High Street was blocked with officers standing guard at a lane leading off the High Street, at the rear of premises.
Floral tributes have been laid at the scene.
