A motorcyclist was rushed to Ninewells Hospital with serious injuries on Sunday afternoon after a crash near Friockheim.
The man remains in a serious condition.
The A933 was closed in both directions for more than two and a half hours after the collision between a car and a motorbike south of Friockheim at Legaston Brae.
Traffic was diverted via Leysmill between 1.30pm and 4pm as the man was treated than taken away in an ambulance and debris was cleared from the road.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers put barriers in place at around 1.30pm after a two vehicle road traffic collision (RTC) during the afternoon.
“An ambulance attended and a man was taken to Ninewells Hospital with serious injuries. The road remained closed as arrangements were made to recover a vehicle from the scene and clear debris.”
An eyewitness said: “The road was closed at Friockheim junction on the Arbroath side. I couldn’t see any wreck.”
The road was re-opened shortly after 4pm on Sunday afternoon.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service did not attend.
Hundreds of motorcyclists had travelled to Angus for Brechin’s Harley-Davidson in the City Festival, though it is not known if the biker was one of those involved in the event.
Bill Sturrock, chairman of the motorcycle festival, said he hadn’t heard about the accident and did not think the biker was an attendee.
He said: “I would be surprised if it was someone involved with the festival. Today is a static day, where the bikes are judged while they are parked, and riders only started leaving the site after 4pm.”
Council leader David Fairweather, whose ward includes Friockheim, said: “It is a shock to hear about an accident in that area.
“My thoughts and best wishes go with the person who was injured, and I hope for him, his family and friends that he goes on to make a speedy recovery.”
