A man who sent an offensive text to his ex in a long-running feud years after the end of their relationship has been criticised by a sheriff.
Thomas Read had gone out with the woman for seven years until 2015, but after things turned sour the woman got involved with a new partner.
The 30-year-old had not seen the woman since 2016, but suspected her of sending him a video with her new partner at that time, Forfar Sheriff Court heard.
The court was told that on February 15 the woman received a text from a number she did not recognise stating: “Three years today you would have sent me that pornographic video.”
It added: “Don’t even bother texting back, just do what you normally do and call police. . . lying cow.”
Police discovered the number was registered to Read and he admitted sending the offensive message.
Solicitor Grant Bruce said: “He is in another relationship and will be making no further contact with the complainer.”
Sheriff Gregor Murray told Read: “There is a very simple way to sort all of this out and it is not by the stupid, juvenile, puerile behaviour.”
Deferring sentence for six months, he told Read, of Lorne Crescent, Monifieth: “I intend to impose a significant fine or a number of hours of unpaid work at the end of that period.”
