A jury has found Wes Reid not guilty of killing Brian Fox in a taxi rank brawl in the early hours of the new year.
The jury at the High Court of Edinburgh accepted Reid’s plea of self defence.
Reid, 20, of Newport Road, Tayport, said he feared Mr Fox was going to attack him after being approached from behind.
His co-accused, Adam Valentine, 25, had previously pled guilty to assaulting Mr Fox while he lay on the ground after the incident.
Valentine was found guilty of assaulting Sandra Baird by pushing her on to the road during the mass brawl, which erupted after a taxi recklessly drove into the rank near Steeple Church, almost hitting Reid and Valentine.
Mrs Baird was left with a scar on her chin and tinnitus as a result of knocking her head on the ground.
A string of other assault charges against Valentine, a prisoner at Perth, were dropped by prosecutors earlier in the trial.
There were gasps from the public gallery as the jury delivered their verdicts.
