A 65-year-old man has appeared in court following an incident in a Kirkcaldy street on Saturday morning. Robert Penman was charged with assault to severe injury and possession of a blade or pointed article. A second man, aged 48, has been reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with what police described as a disturbance in Links Street. He has yet to appear in court. Penman, of Kirkcaldy, made no plea and was released on bail during his appearance in private on petition in the town’s sheriff court. He was committed for further examination. A date has yet to be set for his next appearance. Police swooped on Links Street after the alarm was raised shortly before 11am on Saturday. Part of the street was sealed off as an investigation was launched. Two men were taken to the town’s Victoria Hospital. The road was closed for around two hours near its junction with Heggie’s Wynd and traffic was diverted via the Esplanade. A local shop was also closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.
