A cleaner was found lying sleeping on a surgery floor at 8am after downing a half bottle of gin on top of a bottle of wine.
Former trainee nurse Fiona Beveridge was found by a member of staff and told them: “I was drinking. I’m drunk.”
Beveridge then made her way to her car and was found slumped over the wheel while she was more than five times over the legal limit.
Yesterday at Perth Sheriff Court, the 52-year-old was banned from driving for three years and fined £450.
Beveridge, of Inver, Perthshire, admitted being drunk in charge of her Seat Ibiza in Perthshire on August 21 2018.
Depute fiscal Tina Dickie said a member of staff at the GP practice came in to start work and found Beveridge slumped on the floor.
“She woke up and said sorry to the member of staff. She was slurring her words and her eyes were glazed,” Mrs Dickie said.
Beveridge was found in her car and failed a roadside breath test, before being arrested and taken to Perth police HQ where she blew a reading of 112-22 mics.
Solicitor Paul Ralph, defending, said: “The court won’t be surprised to know that alcohol has been a problem she has battled for a number of years.
“She told police she had a bottle of wine the previous night and at work that morning she had a half bottle of gin.
“Her employment was terminated at the surgery at the time as they did not wish her back. The same place has now taken her back.”
Mr Ralph told the court Beveridge’s driving licence had been revoked by DVLA on medical grounds.
