A 33-year old is due to appear in court today in connection with the death of a man in Dundee.
Officers said a man had been arrested and charged following the discovery of Ryan Barrie’s body at a property in Benvie Gardens at the weekend.
Tributes have been paid to the dead man, who was 39 and went by the nickname Mini. Relatives of Mr Barrie have been informed of his death.
It comes after police cordoned off Benvie Gardens over the weekend. Forensics teams were seen scouring the area throughout Sunday.
One neighbour described Mr Barrie as a “bouncy, friendly guy” who lived on the street with his son.
The neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “I didn’t really know him, but he would always say hi and seemed like a really nice lad.
“If he was walking past he would always make the effort to wave at me. He seemed like a cheery guy, he had a bounce to his walk.
“I didn’t see what happened as it was through the night and I was sleeping, but when I woke up I saw all the police and they spoke to me.”
The entire street was cordoned off on Sunday and residents had to sign in and out with police when leaving their homes.
The cordon was scaled back yesterday, but three doors — one further along the road from the other two — were still blocked off by police tape.
A large tent that had been erected on Sunday was still in place yesterday. Flowers had been left on a bin lying by the tent.
Police were seen taking a body away from the scene on Sunday evening.
Several neighbours who were friends with Mr Barrie said they were too shocked to speak yesterday.
A police spokesman said: “Around 2.50am on Sunday March 1, officers received a report a 39-year old had died in a property in Benvie Gardens in Dundee.
“A 33-year old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death.
“He is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday March 3 and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
