A thief who tried to run out of a supermarket clutching numerous boxes of ibuprofen has been jailed for eight months. Damian Glowacz, 32, told staff at Scotmid he needed eight boxes of the powerful painkillers but was told he was only allowed one box. When he was refused, Glowacz grabbed several boxes and made a bolt for the door before being stopped by members of staff at the store in Blairgowrie. He later confronted a middle aged woman and told her he would fight her before pulling out a lock knife. Depute fiscal Robbie Brown told Perth Sheriff Court: “The accused was seen at 2pm, attempting to purchase eight packets of ibuprofen. “He was told he couldn’t buy that number. He was shouting ‘I need them, I need them’. “He simply grabbed a handful of packets and made his way towards the door. As he was leaving he was stopped and eight packets were removed from him.” Glowacz admitted trying to steal painkillers from Scotmid on December 14, as well as having an offensive weapon, the knife. Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told him: “Your behaviour would have caused members of the public considerable concern.”
