A man has appeared in court accused of murdering a pensioner in Kirkcaldy. Trevor Kidd, was remanded in custody following the death of a 74-year-old woman in a flat in James Grove on Thursday. Both are believed to have lived in the property together. Kidd, 41, whose address was given only as Kirkcaldy, made no plea to the charge of murder when he appeared at the town’s sheriff court on Monday. He is due to make a second appearance within eight days. Police confirmed they were called to the flat at around 4.50pm on Thursday. There was little evidence of police activity on Monday, however, aside from one police van parked at the end of the road. Shocked neighbours in the quiet town centre street said they could not comprehend the news. One woman, who asked not to be named, said she could not believe it. “I don’t actually know either of the people but we don’t get much in the way of trouble round here. It’s quite quiet,” she said. “What a shame though. It’s terrible.” A man living near the flat in question said he had seen police arriving on Thursday teatime. “There were a few of them and they were there a good while,” he said.
