A minibus driver drove straight across two mini roundabouts while nearly five times the drink-driving limit, a court has heard.
Police were called after Adrian-Valentin Dumbrava drove “straight at” another motorist in Minto Place, Glenrothes, Falkirk Sheriff Court was told on Friday.
Dumbrava, a fish factory worker, had taken the Ford Transit Tourneo minibus to a friend’s house in the hope of selling it, got drunk, and had made the mistake of driving back to his own home when the incident occurred at 11.45pm on March 23, the court heard.
Prosecutor Eilidh Smith said: “A member of the public was driving home and he saw the van being driven towards a roundabout, and then to travel in the direction of his own vehicle.
“He had to take evasive action to avoid a collision.
“He followed the van and saw it fail to negotiate another roundabout.”
Dumbrava was arrested and taken to Dunfermline Police Station where he gave a sample of breath which proved on analysis to contain 107 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres – nearly 4.9 times the legal limit, which is 22.
Dumbrava, a 41-year-old father-of-one, of Glenwood Centre, Glenrothes, pleaded guilty to drink-driving.
He also admitted having no insurance, and that the minibus was untaxed.
Sheriff Derek Livingston banned Dumbrava from driving for 26 months, and sentenced him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.
